Krysta's Story
Between Type 1 Diabetes as a teen and chronic pain in my 20s, I learned truly living meant more than just managing disease. The real power comes with identifying and overcoming the barriers getting in the way of being who you were made to be.Over time, finding effective lifestyle changes through research and self-experimentation transformed my reality. It's this personal battle that drives me as a Wellness Coach, committed to supporting others on their path to wellness.
What is Wellness Coaching?
Professional coaching began in the early 1980s, initially focused on business and life coaching. Coaching is a partnership where one is able to maximize their potential through both creative and strategic processes. It is through these processes that clients are able to navigate the road between where they are now, and where they want to be. A wellness coach more specifically applies the same coaching methodology to health and wellness programs.According to the NCBI, approximately 1 in 3 people worldwide suffer from at least one chronic illness. Additionally, only 20% of adults are thriving. The rest of us may just be merely surviving. The case for health promoting behaviors as highly effective interventions for chronic disease is leading to a new division of healthcare known as lifestyle medicine.While doctors may recommend lifestyle changes to treat or prevent disease, they do not have the time to provide the support needed to make those changes happen. A certified Wellness Coach is considered a valuable part of the healthcare team, one that can provide you with an advocate in between regular scheduled doctor appointments.Coaching is not about diagnosing or treating any condition. Instead, we focus on fostering a space that empowers you to make lasting, sustainable changes. Through your time with a coach, you'll discover the tools and resources available to you, unlocking deep insights and expanding your mindspace.Wellness coaches create a safe space for you to connect with your inner wisdom and explore what's standing in your way. Krysta's Story
As a young teen, my Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis presented a steep learning curve. With the support of my parents and access to a fitness center, I discovered the transformative power of exercise and community. My life was elevated to a better place than before my diagnosis, which gave me a desire to inspire others life a healthy lifestyle too. My first step in this direction was becoming a Zumba® Fitness instructor in 2011.During my undergraduate studies, a health behaviors class sparked a realization: the biggest obstacles to well-being aren't often a lack of knowledge, but rather the barriers that arise between knowing and doing. This ignited my passion to someday bring this intersection of healthy lifestyle and psychology into my career.After graduating with my degree in Sport Performance & Fitness Entrepreneurship, my health unexpectedly deteriorated. A downward spiral in my early twenties affected me with crippling back and hip pain, anxiety attacks, and frequently feeling unwell. My health insisted on a career change from my very physical fitness instructor jobs to an administrative position. It also propelled me towards discovering how to improve my wellness. This included both extensive research and personal "goal experiments” to see which lifestyle changes were most effective.In all my persistence, I did not always feel hopeful or optimistic. But on days when my experiments worked and lifted more of the painful burden off my shoulders, all the effort I put in felt worth it. I was worth it. It is not always easy to do the work, but it is always worth it. My life experience and the understanding of how many others face health challenges motivated me to become a certified Wellness Coach. My goal is to create support tailored for those with chronic illness who are also seeking to transform their lives.
